The one thing every make up enthusiast loves is make - up trends! We’ve heard
a lot of makeup terminology in the last two years, including the words
contouring, highlighting, strobing, baking, and so on. If ‘strobing’ sounds a bit
80s disco dancefloor, you’ll be relieved to know that there’s zero glitter
involved.
You might find yourself wondering, “Strobing? Isn’t that the same
thing as highlighting or dewy skin?”
The short answer is yes. Strobing is a fancy new trend name for what most of us
have already come to know and understand. But in beauty terms, strobing is a
new and subtler way to accentuate the face without the harsh and time-
consuming application of heavy contour.

How do you strobe?
1. Prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer. Strobing is all about getting the perfect glow, so you'll need to replenish dull, dry skin with a good moisturizer first. If you have naturally oily skin, use one that's oil-free.
2. Use a highlighter shade that best matches your skin tone. To avoid the frosted '90s look, make sure the highlighter you're using complements your skin tone for a subtle sheen.
3. Do not overdo it with extra product. This trend is supposed to look subtle. Use the lightest touch and don't get tempted to pile your highlight on.
Strobing relies solely on highlighters and natural light to define your face and radiate a youthful look.
Unlike contouring, which requires the use of multiple products, strobing is a lot simpler and consists of the applier finding where the natural light hits their cheekbones, brows, nose and chin, and using the highlighter to define that area.
While contouring often leaves a matte finish, strobing delivers a shimmery effect if the right products are used.

The Technique
The idea is to accentuate the high points on your face—the places where the
light should catch. The outcome is the illusion of high cheekbones and strong
features, with a glowing finish that makes your skin look radiant. Simply tap
your favorite illuminating highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones, the inner
brow bone above your brow, the outer brow bone below the tapered end of your
brow, the inner corners of your eyes, the bridge of your nose, your Cupid’s bow,
and the apple of your chin. I prefer to use the pads of my fingertips to tap liquid
or cream highlighter into my skin. The tapping creates a skin-mimicking finish
while blending the product perfectly into the skin. For powder highlighters, I
prefer to use a fan brush to sweep the product onto the points, or blending brush
for the smaller areas.
