"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself." ~ Josh Billings

Dogs enrich us in small and undramatic ways every day—by making us laugh, keeping us company, and offering us unconditional love. Those who have dogs know that there can be no dull moment around them. There is a reason why dogs are our best friends and with best friends, craziness knows no bounds. Even though you probably spent a month and a half just deciding a name for your dog, not once have you called him by that name. You always chat up your dog. it's an alien language only you two understand. No matter how old you may be, I bet you still make funny faces at your dog, just to see the surprise on his face. You utter ‘let’s go out’ every now and then without any intention of taking him for walk, just to see him go crazy with the excitement and off course you've dressed your dog in the most ridiculous outfits. I am head - over- heels for dogs and so I wanted to share stories about the bond that most people share with their dogs amongst our dog- ruffin folk. My article focuses on 10 stories about the bond between dogs and their humans. I interviewed a couple of people who were kind enough to answer my questions and here's what they had to say about their furry friends...

1) Meet Karan Amin, He is a 26 year old professional Football player from Mumbai, and has played for Mumbai FC for 5 years and representing them in the I league Maharashtra state twice. Karan has had dogs growing up and he's always been fond of big dogs. He right now owns a Siberian Husky aged 10 months named Pogba, named after a French footballer. They are inseparable mates and spend their time together by going for walks, runs, and long drives.

When asked what 'special tricks'; Pogba can do, Karan says, "He is a husky, haha that's what is special. Being an affectionate dog he sleeps with me in my room and always get's along with everybody. He has taught me to be carefree and not give a damn about anyone. I think it's very important for kids to grow up with dogs. We have shared so many experiences together but the one memory I still reminisce about is the first day I got him. I had him flown in from Delhi, I went to pick him up at the cargo he was tiny and so scared, the best feeling was and still is holding him. Pogba is a foodie just like me and eats anything. I pamper him by letting him sleep on my bed and give him a massage."

Does Pogba get scared of anything?

His dry shampoo.

2) Parag Thakare is a 30 year old documentary film maker from Mumbai working in the UAE. Any dog adopted by Parag instantly becomes family. He has two furry friends one is a mix breed i.e Lassa Terrier mix named Coco, a greedy, crazy, foodie dog who is 7 year old and a 14 year old Labrador named Abbie who is stubborn, greedy, and one hell of a sleeping beauty. The three stooges spend their time talking and playing together.

When asked what is the best trick his dogs have taught him?

His quick response was "Love! A loving dog is the best breed."

He still remembers that scary moment when Coco was eating tablets from a box on the table away from her reach...the sight of it gave him a heart attack. But moving on to the lighter moments one of the funniest thing his dog has ever done is staring at him eat and sliding backwards, walking into a wall (sleepy), humping the other female dog and funnier yet the most ridiculous thing he has done to his dog is and I quote "hahaha dressing em up in tshirts and sunglasses."

He then goes to say, "My dog saves me from stress everyday and I worry for them when they freak out at loud noises, they are as humans as us. I have witnessed a lot of bad pet- owner behaviour and It's definitely important for kids to grow up with dogs as they definitely can learn a lot from them."

3) Aakash Kapoor, A 21 year old student residing in Lokhandwala currently doing his third year of bachelors in mass media. He has a dog named Brandy and she is a 8 year old Mixed Border Collie.

"Before her I had a lot of ducks growing up. We spend our time cuddling, going for walks, rolling on the floor. She sleeps in my room and we taught her to shake hands.

The moment I still reminisce is in Dubai where my dog started sprinting and dragged me along the floor and the funniest moment is when a femlae dog humped my leg.

Border collies make the best companion cause their considered to be the smartest dog breed and their extremely loyal. My dog loves mutton and humans are her favourite toy

Rub her on her belly or scratch her back she will adore you. She hates loud noises, firecrackers, and sudden noises. It terrifys her. I've seen owners abandon their dog, kick them, its aweful!

I think Its essential for kids to grow up with dogs as dogs provide love , companionship and a feeling of joy."

4) Sahil Sharma a resident from Khar West, Mumbai. He is 27 years old and is a professional canine trainer and behaviourist. He loves old school heavy metal and automobiles! Sahil owned a A Finnish Spitz growing up. He currently owns a Labrador Retriever named Heidi who is 6 months old. "Heidi's co pet parent, Pranita, came up with her name its German for 'Noble' and it used to be our favourite TV show! Heidi and I share a superb relationship. Being her pet parent we spend our me together training, playing, doing café visits, camping out of town and most importantly sleeping!"

What are some "special" things your dogs can do?

"Scenting and tracking of humans and toys and elementary roll overs. She retrieves toys when instructed by a person over video calls!"

What is the best trick your dog has taught you?

"Getting out of unwanted conversations".

The funniest thing your dog has ever done?

"She has a knack of unbuttoning shirt buttons, of women. Something I have neither

taught her nor understood how she does it."

What breed do you think makes the best companion, and why?

"Any breed. A person getting a dog needs to know his needs and the dogs needs and identify where both the needs meet to have a healthy and happy relationship. For example a person who hates exercise SHOULD NOT get a Siberian Husky because they well, love to run! Bad behaviour= vocal reprimand."

5) Mallaika Ferns owns a dog Kiara named after 'Kiara' from the Lion King movie.

She’s two years old and is off Mongrel breed cause they both share similar traits of being feisty.

"We go on an evening walk, we share Parle-G biscuits during tea time and we sleep together. When she’s in the mood and if you pester her enough, she gives you “kissies”. When she was younger, she pooped on the floor and I called out to her to tell her off. She came running very excitedly until she realised what she was being called for and just turned around and ran in the other direction. That was really cute. Of course no one had the heart to tell her off then. According to me, the breed doesn’t matter. Although, If I do buy a breed dog, I would buy a golden retriever because they’re furry and kinda big. Love to cuddle with big dogs. The most ridiculous outfit we dressed our dog in is when my mom made her wear a pink baby dress for Christmas. She absolutely hated it. Kiaras favourite treats are Choostix and Cheese. I pamper my dog with Loads of cuddles. Before we got her, my family was having a hard time with each other. She brought us close together. I guess you can say she saved my family." says, Mallaika Ferns.
